Stanley’s free access control software promotion encourages security system integration
March 28th, 2007
Commercial organisations looking to manage their time and attendance and security solutions from the same system are being given a boost with a free promotion from Stanley Security Solutions on its latest NT500E access control software. The move comes as more and more businesses begin to recognise the improved efficiencies and security benefits of an integrated approach.
For a limited period up to the end of June 2007, the NT500E access control software worth £625 is being offered free to customers. As added incentive, the software can also be integrated with a Stanley Astrow time and attendance system enabling customers to benefit from additional security for staff and site visitors whilst saving time and effort with one single point of data entry.
Typically the Astrow system provides organisations with a range of time and attendance benefits including instant control of every aspect of employees’ time-keeping, monitoring of lateness and absenteeism, automatic calculations of working hours and shift patterns, overtime or payroll and integration with various other HR processes. By integrating Astrow with the NT500E access control system, managers will be able to create keyholders and access groups for specific areas of a building helping to further enhance business security by improving staff safety, protecting business assets and increasing efficiencies.
One single card used to access a building and then log on to the time and attendance system enables businesses to protect themselves from unwanted intruders and restrict access to authorised personnel in specific areas at certain times. By ensuring a business’s time and attendance and access control information is synchronised and has up to the minute accuracy, everyone knows instantly who is on site at any time - vital, for example, in a fire or emergency situation.
Marketing manager Matt Wheeler commented: “Integration is the watchword when it comes to Stanley’s range of security, communications and time management products and any solution that improves security whilst reducing costs is to be welcomed. Many of our time and attendance clients are unaware of the full benefits of our comprehensive access control offering and vice versa, so by introducing this promotion we’re adding value to these customers and encouraging them to look beyond obvious standalone systems.
“The NT500E access control range already includes features such as dedicated evacuation and muster reports and integration with other third party systems including fire alarms, emergency and general security alerts, CCTV, parking and intruder detection. The fact it can also now be fully integrated with one of our own time and attendance systems, enabling access to real-time data on employees and work patterns, is a major benefit to customers across a range of commercial applications.”

POSWatch keeps an eye on internal retail theft
November 10 , 2006
Despite the billions of pounds spent on retail security, a report earlier this month by the British Retail Consortium identified a 70% rise in shoplifting since 2000.
Its 2006 Retail Crime Survey concluded that shop crime in the UK last year cost a total of £2.1 billion, with thieves stealing an average £149 worth of goods in each incident. But as disturbing as these figures are, and whilst restricting access to trespassers and would-be thieves is a challenge facing all loss prevention managers, there’s no ignoring the fact that much of the problem lies closer to home; internal theft is responsible for an increasing number of retail losses.
Monitoring activity at point of sale is therefore an extremely important element of reducing shrinkage and Stanley Security Solutions has introduced its POSWatch digital CCTV system in direct response.
Integrated with a store’s point of sale (POS) infrastructure, recording POS data and overlaying it on video images, the system monitors and analyses cashier activity providing proof of all transactions. It enables data mining on keywords such as ‘refund’, ‘discount’, ‘no sale’ or instances of multiple credit or debit card usage, helping to provide valuable information to combat fraud.
POSWatch is compatible with PTZ and static cameras and can be synchronised with playback to assist with tracking movement and recording activity even if the loss prevention manager is not on site. With full IP connectivity it can monitor multiple sites from a central location and has an immediate impact on shrinkage, providing evidence to help eliminate fraud, ‘sweethearting’, refund abuse and staff theft.
With reports, analysis and digital evidence all now admissible in court, POSWatch can be an extremely important tool in the fight against crime.
But with internal theft just one of many security aspects facing the retailer, integration of security systems is also vitally important as Stanley’s marketing manager, Matt Wheeler explains: “POSWatch can also be linked to access control, alarm management and fire detection, so if for example a fire breaks out, the alarm activates, access control doors are opened and the CCTV cameras automatically pan round to record the scene.
“At Stanley, our retail experience helps us to understand the needs of retailers and, more specifically, loss prevention managers, and we can recommend standalone or integrated security products designed to help reduce losses and increase revenue and profitability.”

Stanley takes an integrated approach to commercial site security
October 9, 2006
As the security of buildings and equipment coupled with the safety of the people in their care becomes an increasingly important business priority for commercial organisations, Stanley Security Solutions has introduced a new range of high tech access control solutions that address all requirements.
In most commercial environments there is a broad range of valuable equipment and resources that needs to be protected from unauthorised access or potential theft to safeguard against costly losses. At the same time employees need to be able to move easily throughout their place of work with minimum inconvenience and maximum efficiency and safety. It is to meet this challenge that increasingly sophisticated access control solutions are being developed.
Designed around the practical needs of the marketplace, Stanley’s new NT500E range of high tech access control solutions embraces a complete portfolio of products including technically advanced readers and controllers, flexible ID options and administration software, all based on a single platform that allows system components to work seamlessly together.
The NT500E range is intended to provide maximum value to a business by offering genuine system integration, not just with other Stanley products but with many other existing systems. This will enable companies from within the commercial sector to mix and match access control and related products as their security requirements change or grow.
The NT500E range includes features such as dedicated evacuation and muster reports and integration with other third party systems including fire alarms, emergency and general security alerts, CCTV, parking and intruder detection.
In many commercial applications, access control is also increasingly integrated with time and attendance systems so the customer can access real-time data on employees and work patterns, obtaining all information necessary to ensure a safe and efficient business operation.
Fully scaleable and of consistent design, Stanley’s access control solutions can cope with everything from simple one or two door standalone systems through to large multi-site applications either locally or centrally controlled. They are also fully compliant with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), with products designed to help organisations ensure secure areas are equally accessible to disabled users. This will include features such as recognising individuals who require extra door opening time, dual LED indicators on readers and audible sounders to confirm access.
A finance Partnership Programme that allows customers to make regular, manageable payments means they can also enjoy all the benefits of a fully warranted system without the burden of capital outlay or the risks of ownership.
Commenting on the new range, marketing manager, Matt Wheeler said: “With ever increasing security risks, more demands on management time and technology and data now driving everyday business needs, a reliable access control solution provides vital reassurance and peace of mind that all security angles are being covered.
“By offering genuine system integration and being fully scaleable to develop as security requirements increase, the NT500E range provides genuine value to businesses in a range of commercial applications."

Babergh takes on the fly-tippers with spy camera technology
June 14, 2006
Babergh District Council in Suffolk has taken the fight to local fly-tippers by installing a series of mini spy cameras in fly-tipping hotspots across the district to record perpetrators’ every move.
The miniature cameras, the size of a pinhole and a bullet, together with EasiWatch® wireless technology, were supplied by leading security specialists, Stanley Security Solutions.
So small are the cameras that they can be hidden for covert surveillance, for example in a coke can. Once they detect movement near to where they are placed they are automatically activated and then capture digital quality video recordings which are connected to remote monitoring equipment and observed by council officers.
This state-of-the-art technology records illegal fly tippers’ every movement, helping to identify offenders and assist with successful prosecutions.
Costing some £7,000 the cameras represent significant investment, much of it using council taxpayers’ money, but last year alone Babergh Council found, collected and disposed of more than a tonne of illegally-dumped rubbish a week, at a cost of over £17,000.
Malcolm Firth, Babergh District Council’s Head of Environmental Service said: “It is a new approach for us and I am delighted we are stepping up the fight against fly-tippers. The EasiWatch® cameras are extremely advanced equipment that produce very good images and are going to be successful in the war against these people.”
Tackling the growing problem of fly-tipping is a major challenge facing more and more local authorities and one which is costing them hundreds of man hours and thousands of pounds to successfully police and prosecute.
It’s an issue that Stanley Security Solutions has now tackled head on with the launch of EasiWatch®, which is aiding and assisting local authority and police force surveillance.
Stanley’s marketing manager, Matt Wheeler commented: “Fly-tipping has become a social scourge affecting more and more parts of the country, with illegally dumped waste creating serious environmental, not to mention health hazards.
“Fly-tippers will make every effort to hide what they are doing, making it difficult to police and catch the culprits. However, the new EasiWatch® system captures and records images of the highest quality, providing local authorities and the police with valuable evidence to assist in the prosecution of offenders.”

TV show is no joke for ‘Big Shot’ Alan as Bright Sparks prove business is child’s play
June 7, 2006
A high-flying businessman from Hamilton was brought down to earth by a team of kids when he took part in CBBC’s new hit tea-time show, Beat The Boss recently.
Alan McKeeve (27), a sales executive with Stanley Security Solutions, was one of three successful business people in a team called the Big Shots, taking on the Bright Sparks, a team of young schoolchildren, in a challenge to design a brand new practical joke.
But in the world of electric shock handshakes, itching powder and stink bombs, the business ‘gurus’ were no match for the creative kids, their ‘Screaming Diary’ idea losing out to the ‘FP3’, a fart machine modelled on an MP3 player.
Defeat was a bitter blow for Alan who just a couple of months ago was celebrating success in the UK National Sales Awards where he won Young Sales Professional of the Year for his sales success out of Stanley Security Solutions’ Glasgow office.
It was that award that led to Alan being invited to take part in the new show, which is hosted by The Apprentice star, Saira Khan, and broadcast weekdays on CBBC1.
Alan, who spent several days filming the show in London, said it had been a great experience: “It’s amazing the opportunities thrown up by the Sales Award success and appearing on this show was a great thrill. Believe me, our team was doing its best to beat the Bright Sparks, but when you lose out to a fart-machine, it’s probably time to admit some things are best left to the kids.”

Stanley keeps ‘EasiWatch®’ over mounting cost of plant theft
Timely product launch as new Report highlights scale of the problem
May 2, 2006
As latest figures show a sharp rise in the theft of construction and agricultural machinery, with over £43m
worth of equipment stolen last year, Stanley Security Solutions has announced the timely launch of ‘EasiWatch®’,
a cost effective, mobile CCTV system developed specifically for construction site use.
The latest National Plant and Equipment Register’s 2006 equipment theft report suggests a 20% increase in machinery and equipment theft, much of it for use in other criminal activities such as the use of excavators to steal from cash machines or partially disable security vans.
Designed to tackle issues of plant theft as well as enable construction firms to keep a close watch on potential employee malpractice and health & safety issues, the redeployable EasiWatch® system is as quick and easy to erect as site fencing and integrates seamlessly with any existing CCTV equipment. Because EasiWatch® cameras are streamline and fully mountable, they can be installed anywhere on site and offer a full 360° view for total site monitoring. Images from the wireless surveillance system can then be beamed direct to an existing control desk or to the EasiWatch® portable briefcase which can be used for remote monitoring, control the cameras’ orientation and record all images received.
Explains Matt Wheeler, Marketing Manager at Stanley Security Solutions: “Traditional CCTV systems are both costly and time intensive to install, and even after that considerable investment, they often have blind spots that can leave the site exposed to theft and vandalism. The EasiWatch® system can be installed or re-deployed in less than an hour, offering a flexible and cost effective boost to the operator’s existing CCTV provision wherever there is a need for a security top up.”
With the option of Stanley’s in-house finance partnership, which ensures there are no assets to write off and no expensive outlay, the EasiWatch® is also extremely cost effective. Matt Wheeler continues: “Because there is no capital outlay, there is no drain on cash flow and we offer a unique warranty for the term of the agreement to provide total peace of mind. Full installation, integration and training are also included as part of the package, so this really is a ‘plug in and go’ system that can be used throughout the lifecycle of a specific site or to trouble shoot across a number of sites.”
All cameras are both vandal-proof and weather-proof, and Stanley Security Solutions offers a 24-hour nationwide support and maintenance service to ensure effective site monitoring night and day.
Matt Wheeler adds: “This latest report once again highlights the scale of machinery and equipment theft and the fact that the plant and equipment industry needs to urgently address this growing problem. Our aim in developing the EasiWatch® System has been to provide a cost-efficient and flexible CCTV solution that not only reduces this type of crime but also drives down the costs of doing so.”

Stanley keeps ‘EasiWatch®’ over mounting site security costs
12th April 2006
With the cost of construction site theft in the UK estimated at between £600million and £1 billion* every year, it’s no wonder security and insurance budgets are mounting. It’s an issue that Stanley Security Solutions has tackled head on with the launch of ‘EasiWatch®’, a cost effective, mobile CCTV system developed specifically for construction site use.
Designed to tackle issues of plant theft and site vandalism, as well as enable construction firms to keep a close watch on potential employee malpractice and health & safety issues, the redeployable EasiWatch® system is as quick and easy to erect as site fencing and integrates seamlessly with any existing CCTV equipment. All cameras are both vandal-proof and weather-proof, and Stanley Security Solutions offers a 24-hour nationwide support and maintenance service to ensure effective site monitoring night and day.
Matt Wheeler adds: “With false injury claims and petty theft from employees or subcontractors pushing up the costs of running a building site, the need for effective security is greater than ever before. Our aim in developing the EasiWatch® System was to provide a cost-efficient and flexible CCTV solution that not only reduces site crime but drives down the costs of doing so.”
